Week Fourteen: Welcome to the Second Trimester

Week fourteen is the beginning of the second trimester, so I am now officially 1/3 of the way through the pregnancy. According to my book, the baby is now about the size of a fist and weighs about an ounce. I am really feeling much better, sleeping very well and have gotten most of my pre-pregnancy energy back. I now have a very noticeable bump that can been seen when I wear anything except heavy sweaters (it can especially be seen in the mirror during waltz class) Its pretty weird now to see myself in profile. I am also ALWAYS hungry! I worry about this since nutritionally speaking, the baby should only need 300 extra calories a day for the first two trimesters (it is increased to 500 calories/day in the last trimester). I don't want to gain too much weight, not only is it unhealthy for me after the baby is born, but it also makes delivery more difficult, or so say my pregnancy books. I have a checkup next week and I'm anxious to see how much weight I've put on. A normal woman should put on somewhere between 25-35lbs over the whole pregnancy. We shall see...
